Techfest Hanoi 2023: Capital Region seeks policies to attract global logistics providers

It is essential to implement digital and green transformation in the capital region's logistics sector.

The Government needs to give policies to incentivize major international logistics service providers and domestic logistics companies to locate their headquarters, branches, and transaction offices in the Capital Region.

Nguyen The Hiep, Deputy Director of Hanoi's Department of Industry and Trade, made the suggestion on October 13 at the seminar "Boosting Logistics and Connectivity, Developing the Capital Region" at Techfest Hanoi 2023, held in Hanoi from October 12 to 14.

He emphasized the enhancement of cooperation between logistics enterprises and their clients in the region and nationwide, as well as international organizations and enterprises.

"High-quality human resources development and professional activities are essential for the logistics sector to be ready to adapt to the process of international economic integration," he said.

At the seminar, Nguyen Hong Son, Director of the Hanoi Department of Science and Technology, said that logistics services and activities play an extremely important role in the development of enterprises. Without the support of logistics services, many manufacturing and trading companies could not expand their scale and penetrate international markets.

He said that the Capital Region will become a major comprehensive economic area of Vietnam with a total area of over 24,300 km2, and a developed road network. Comprising 10 provinces and first-tier cities: Hanoi, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Ha Nam, Hoa Binh, Phu Tho, Bac Giang, and Thai Nguyen, the Capital Region will become a comprehensive economic area of Vietnam.

In 2022, the economic growth of provinces and cities in the Capital Region will exceed the national average, with two provinces among the top five provinces with the highest GDP growth rate nationwide, according to the director.

"The provinces and cities in the Capital Region significantly contribute to the country's growth, trade development and trade surplus," Son said.

This is a prerequisite and an important condition for promoting the logistics development of the region and its connectivity within and outside the region. Hanoi prioritizes the development of high-tech industrial production in high-value-added services such as finance, banking, tourism and logistics," he stressed.

Meanwhile, Trinh Thi Thanh Thuy, former deputy director of the Vietnam Institute of Strategy and Policy on Industry and Trade under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, believes that implementing digital and green transformation in the capital region's logistics sector is essential.

"In the context of green economic development, circular economy, and implementation of free trade agreements and other international commitments, digital transformation in the logistics sector must be carried out at all stages of the supply chain," she said.

As part of Techfest Hanoi 2023, another workshop on "Business with Science, Technology and Innovation" and a Young Entrepreneurial Innovation Forum will also be held today [October 13].

There will be forums on technology and innovation startup networking with the theme "Promoting an Open Innovation Ecosystem in line with ESG Orientation for Hanoi" and the Hanoi Innovative Startup Competition 2023.

The three-day event will feature key activities such as an exhibition showcasing innovative startup projects, technology demonstrations, and supply-demand linkages.
