Schedule for General Vo Nguyen Giap commemoration announced

To ensure a respectful State funeral for General Vo Nguyen Giap in Hanoi, Quang Binh province and Ho Chi Minh City, the funeral’s organising board has recently issued an announcement on the schedule.

Mourners can pay tribute to General Giap from 7:30 to 21:00 on October 12 at the National Morgue at No.5, Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi, the office of the Quang Binh provincial People’s Committee and the Thong Nhat Hall in Ho Chi Minh City.

In Hanoi, delegations from the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly Standing Committee, the State, the Government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and the Party Central Military Commission will join General Vo Nguyen Giap’s family and present and former Party and State leaders at the ceremony, to be held from 7:30 to 12:00. Delegations of high-level foreign leaders, the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee, the People’s Council, the People’s Committee and Fatherland Front, the Ministries of Defence and Public Security, international organisations and diplomatic corps and Vietnamese veterans will also attend.


Delegations from other provinces and cities across the country will pay tribute to General Giap from 12:00 to 14:00, followed by those from ministries, central agencies and organisations from 14:00 to 15:00.

Other delegations and individuals will pay tribute to the General from 15:00 to 21:00.

In Quang Binh province and Ho Chi Minh City, branches, agencies, international organisations, diplomatic missions and individuals in the central and southern regions are invited to join services held to coincide with the ceremonies in Hanoi.

The organising board has also set up a standing support office to receive registrations and give relevant information at 51B, Phan Dinh Phung Street, Ba Dinh District in Hanoi. The office can be reached by telephone at 069 552 574.
