Vietnam tech businesses continue recruiting post Covid-19

Only 9% of Vietnamese tech businesses have no recruitment demand next year.

More than 90% of the Vietnamese tech businesses will continue recruiting in 2021 when the Covid-19 pandemic is expected to be contained, according to the latest report conducted by Navigos Group, a Ho Chi Minh City-based HR service provider.

A report titled “ICT employment: Current situation and strategy to meet new technology demands in Vietnam” showed that more than 40% of respondents will keep offering job opportunities next year, half of the businesses said their payroll would expand by 11-20% and nearly a quarter of businesses said they would hire an additional 21-30% or more of workforce. Only 9% said that they would halt hiring activity.

According to the survey, the top three skills in high demand are full-stack (49%), java & javascript (27%), architect design (22%).

Hiring activity for automation, machine learning and blockchain development surges slightly by 18%, 11% and 2%, respectively.

Most of the businesses and job seekers agreed that payroll shortage would directly affect the performance of the company, add more work burden on the remaining employees; and cause lack of engagement among employees due to the instability of personnel.

“The demand for high technology has been recognized by many sectors and businesses, developing application plans, creating new job opportunities for the labor market,” CEO of Navigos Group Vietnam Gaku Echizenya said. “Facing the increase in recruitment demand, enterprises not only face a shortage of technological manpower but also have to prepare solutions to retain talents and cope with rapid changes to new technology.”

From the employer’s perspective, the top three new technology trends are artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain and providing software services (software as a service). To adapt to new technology trends, tech businesses are advised to carefully prepare recruitment plan, in which candidates are required to be aware of making customer experience the focus of product development; develop digital transformation mindset and complex problem-solving skills.

According to the report, tech businesses have made efforts to enhance their human resources capacity to respond to changes in new technology by conducting training at schools and on-the-job training, devising personalized training program based on each individual’s development plan and joint training at universities to ensure output.
