Urenco strives for a cleaner environment in Hanoi

Innovation in garbage collection vehicles is an important step in ensuring environmental sanitation, contributing to building a civilized, clean and beautiful urban area in a sustainable direction.

The Hanoi Urban Environment Company Limited (Urenco) has taken proactive measures to improve environmental sanitation in line with the city's "Bright - Green - Clean - Beautiful" movement, according to Nguyen Thanh Son, Deputy General Director of Urenco.

"Urenco has focused on investing in new equipment (composite bins and garbage trucks) to limit bad smells and leachate into the environment during waste collection and transportation. The move aims to respond to the emulation movement to build a Bright - Green - Clean - Beautiful capital," Son told The Hanoi Times.

"Unlike old-style garbage trucks, composite bins have a larger capacity, so they can hold more garbage. This helps reduce collection frequency, optimize human resources, and save transportation time. With a sealed and waterproof design, composite bins help prevent leachate from escaping and polluting the surrounding environment, and ensure urban aesthetics," Son said

Innovation in garbage collection vehicles is an important step in ensuring environmental sanitation, contributing to building a civilized, clean and beautiful urban area in a sustainable direction.

The above changes have received enthusiastic support from the community. "We are very satisfied with the new garbage trucks, which have met the needs of people's quality of life while limiting environmental pollution," Nguyen Tuan Cuong, head of Residential Group 2 in Ly Thai To Ward, Hoan Kiem District, said.

Changing collection methods

According to Nguyen Thanh Son, in addition to focusing on modernizing the waste collection and transportation system, Urenco is also focusing on changing the method of waste collection to overcome environmental pollution.

Reducing the time for garbage collection has minimized the bad smell in the surrounding area, stopped garbage collection vehicles from causing traffic obstructions, affected urban aesthetics and people's lives.

He added that compared to the old time when garbage bags were left on the sidewalks waiting for trucks to collect them, this new protocol helps create the habit for people to dump garbage on time and in the right place, improve the quality of environmental sanitation services, reduce labor for workers.

"In the coming period, Urenco will continue to make efforts to apply this new collection protocol in Ba Dinh, Hoan Kiem, Hai Ba Trung, Dong Da and Nam Tu Liem districts. At the same time, Urenco hopes that people will cooperate in complying with the regulations when dumping waste," Son stressed.
