Trung Nguyen breaks ground on US$78.2 million Southeast Asia’s largest coffee factory

It is Trung Nguyen Legend's fifth factory in Vietnam and second in Buon Me Thuot City.

The Hanoi Times — Trung Nguyen Legend, the Vietnamese coffee brand, this week launched the construction of Southeast Asia's largest coffee factory, with a total investment of VND2 trillion (US$78.2 million) and designed to meet net-zero standards.

Located in the Tan An 2 Industrial Cluster in Buon Me Thuot City, Dak Lak Province in the Central Highlands, the state-of-the-art coffee processing project is a giant leap forward for Vietnam's coffee industry.

The groundbreaking ceremony is a key event of the 9th Buon Me Thuot Coffee Festival and highlights the festival's investment promotion efforts.

The project will improve the coffee processing chain and produce high-quality raw materials that will benefit various industries.

The new facility embodies Trung Nguyen Legend's fourth initiative to establish a closed-loop coffee production system that minimizes waste and optimizes resources while protecting the environment.

According to Nguyen Tuan Ha, Deputy Chairman of the Dak Lak People's Committee, this factory will boost the coffee processing industry and deepen the ecosystem, creating jobs and improving local livelihoods.

Buon Me Thuot's Robusta coffee is popular in markets such as Germany, Italy, China, the US, Japan, Spain and Indonesia. However, only about 20% of the 530,000 tons produced per year is processed. The local government is encouraging companies to invest in advanced processing technologies to increase product value and meet global demand, he said.

Vanusia Nogueira, Executive Director of the International Coffee Organization, highlighted the significance of the project: "Trung Nguyen Legend's expansion in Buon Me Thuot not only drives economic growth, but also reflects a blend of global vision and local tradition. It serves as a model for sustainable development that benefits farmers and communities."

Statistics by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment showed that Vietnam’s coffee exports reached 1.32 million tons in 2024, generating over $5 billion, the highest figure to date.
