Strong performance of Hanoi tourism in first five months

Despite both local and global economic challenges, Hanoi's tourism sector has produced impressive outcomes.

The capital city is estimated to have welcomed 11.55 million tourists in the first five months of 2024, an increase of 14% compared to the same period last year, according to the Hanoi Tourism Department.

Director of the city's Department of Tourism Dang Huong Giang said this signaled the recovery of Hanoi's tourism industry. "Some of the industry's development goals have been achieved with flying colors, even exceeding the set plan," she added.

The number of international tourists has increased by 51.9% on year. Total revenue from tourism rose 23% compared to the same period last year.

In May 2024, the hotel's average room occupancy rate reached 64.7%, down 1.7% from April 2024 and up 1% on year.

In the first six months of 2024, the average hotel occupancy rate is expected to reach 63.9%, an increase of 2.8%.

Hanoi's tourism industry has made great achievements in the past year, as it has been honored with a number of prestigious awards, including Asia's Leading City Destination 2023, Asia's Leading City Break Destination 2023, and Asia's Leading City Tourist Board. TripAdvisor, the world's leading online travel platform, has honored Hanoi in the categories of World's Leading Destination 2024 and World's Most Attractive Culinary Destination 2024.

In 2024, Hanoi aims to achieve sustainable and efficient development, to be the gateway that welcomes tourists, a hub from which they travel to the North and the whole country, and a "Safe - Friendly - Quality - Attractive" destination.

Hanoi's development of new tourism products has also been effective in attracting tourists and improving the competitiveness of destinations. While continuing to work with localities to build inter-regional routes, Hanoi also offers services connecting the city center and suburban districts, especially the Hanoi Center - Thanh Oai - Thanh Tri - Thuong Tin - Phu Xuyen and Hanoi Center - Thanh Oai - Ung Hoa - My Duc routes.

In addition, many of Hanoi's new tourism offers, such as night tours to the Temple of LiteratureHoa Lo Prison RelicsThang Long Imperial CitadelVietnam Literature Museum, and others, have received positive feedback from domestic and international tourists alike.

At the same time, the capital city has promoted cooperation with provinces and cities to develop inter-provincial tourism routes, including the spiritual-cultural route linking Hanoi with the northern provinces of Ha Nam and Ninh Binh; the Hanoi-Son La, Hanoi-Lao Cai-Lai Chau routes, and others.
