Smart tourism is expected to increase efficiency in tourism management and improve services, along with promotion programs and feedback collection.
Through this system, travel agents will have opportunities to create a service chain. Meanwhile, visitors can search information on Hanoi through tourism portals and forums, make online bookings and receive notifications on the city’s cultural, cuisine and events.
In addition, the Hanoi Department of Tourism has upgraded its tourism website in Vietnamese and English to interact with management agencies and help travel enterprises connect with local people and foreign visitors. In 2019, the department will continue building the system and hopes to launch its basic functions.
The number of visitors to Hanoi in 2018 was estimated at 26 million, a 9.3% increase from 2017, according to the Hanoi Department of Tourism.
An estimated 5.74 million foreigners arrive in Hanoi in 2018, marking a rise of 16% from 2017. In addition, tourism is estimated to earn for Hanoi more than VND75.8 trillion (US$3.26 billion) throughout the year, an year on year increase of 11.7%.
In 2018, Hanoi has been promoted in several rankings. The capital city has been ranked 12th among the world’s 25 best destinations in 2018 and has been nominated for the 2018 leading city destinations in the world by the 2018 World Travel Awards.
