Hanoi seeks ideas for cultural park in Red River

Through this competition, the city will harness creativity, good ideas, uniqueness and feasibility to develop the Red River alluvial islet in a sustainable and innovative way.

Hanoi is launching a competition to seek unique ideas on how to effectively utilize the land resources of the alluvial islet under the jurisdiction of the four Red River districts of Hoan Kiem, Long Bien, Ba Dinh and Tay Ho for the multifunctional cultural and tourism park.

The information was announced by local authorities from four districts at a ceremony held in Hanoi on May 10.

Domestic and international organizations and individuals in the field of creative design consulting are eligible to participate in the competition and will be honored at the awards ceremony, which is expected to take place in October 2024.

The total prize money is VND1 billion (US$39,317), including one first prize, one second prize, and one third prize.

The planning ideas will also help to concretize the approved Red River Zoning Plan for a 1/5000 scale section (from Hong Ha Bridge to Me So Bridge) and provide guidance for organizing the landscape space of the islet.

The activity also serves as the basis for defining the objectives of the project "Developing the Red River Alluvial Land into a Multi-Functional Cultural Park", including the scale, boundaries, research area, implementation sequence, land use management, investment mechanisms, constructed features, and cultural heritage.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan said that through this competition, the city will harness creativity, good ideas, uniqueness and feasibility to develop this special space in a sustainable and innovative way.

He added that in the past, the city has not been able to take full advantage of the value of the Red River and its alluvial land.

Currently, the development of the Red River as a major landscape axis is one of the activities honoring Hanoi's membership in UNESCO's Creative Cities Network, with Party and State policies as the guiding principles.

This includes focusing on the development of the alluvial islet and creating an architectural landscape with creative cultural spaces.
