Hanoi partners with TikTok to promote sales of OCOP products

Hanoi focuses on developing e-commerce solutions to sell the city’s products under the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program.

The Hanoi Office of New Rural Construction Program Coordination will cooperate with TikTok to support the city in enhancing digital transformation to promote One Commune One Product (OCOP) product consumption.

Under an upcoming cooperation agreement between two sides, TikTok will provide a comprehensive set of e-commerce solutions to promote the city’s products under the OCOP program.

According to Nguyen Van Chi, Permanent Deputy Chief of the Hanoi Office of New Rural Construction Program Coordination, the official cooperation between TikTok will help improve the digital capacity of OCOP subjects.

In the coming time, the two sides will jointly organize professional training classes on a set of creative advertising solutions - TikTok for business, and a set of e-commerce solutions - TikTok Shop as well as teaching OCOP subjects on short video production on TikTok to boost sales.

Chi underlined the Hanoi Office of New Rural Construction Program Coordination and TikTok will jointly design promotional communication activities for the OCOP program. “The goal is to support entities to bring OCOP products to a larger spectrum of consumers in the capital and the whole country through social networking platforms,” he added.

TikTok Shop, the e-commerce arm of the social networking giant, would open up opportunities for OCOP subjects and provide a new shopping experience for users.

Sameer Singh, Head of TikTok’s Global Business Solutions, Asia-Pacific, said TikTok Shop helps OCOP manufacturers optimize the process of reaching users and experience seamless phases from uploading products to the platform, order management to shipping, and payment.

“With the trend of shoppertainment, organizations and individuals, especially small and medium enterprises, will have more opportunities to effectively connect with the user community, thereby leading to building stronger customer relationships,” he added.

Hanoi’s great efforts

A festival promoting Hanoi Specialty is held on the fanpage of OCOP Live and VTC Now in 2021.

In 2021 and the first half of 2022, the Hanoi Office of New Rural Construction Program Coordination has carried out a variety of trade promotion activities, focusing on enhancing e-commerce for OCOP products through training programs, online sales training, face-to-face interaction (Livestream), and others.

“As the Covid-19 pandemic situation is unpredictable, marketing through e-commerce and live streaming is an effective solution for small and medium enterprises,” the Permanent Deputy Chief of the Office told The Hanoi Times.

According to the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, thanks to this effort, the recognition of  OCOP products and regional specialties has been enhanced.

During the period, the city also organized many sales training programs on social media platforms for hundreds of OCOP topics where obstacles were discussed and experiences on selling on e-commerce systems and social media were shared.

The programs will be the driving force for Hanoi OCOP subjects and others to improve their marketing skills and sell products directly to customers in the digital era, Chi said.

MD Queens JSC, a Hanoi-based company, through participating in the training courses has grasped skills in branding and Livestream sales, according to the company's Director Trinh Kim Thu.

“Currently, the company has set up many groups to disseminate knowledge of online sales and Livestream for those participating in the distribution system. As a result, our sales of four-star OCOP black tea still achieved positive results, even during the Covid-19 pandemic period,” she said.

Hanoi strives to evaluate and classify 400 OCOP-labeled products each year in the 2021-2026 period. To realize the target, the city will give priority to upgrading regional specialties and traditional craft villages, and continue to assist in the branding of certified products.

The city currently has 1,500 OCOP products rated three stars or higher, including four products with the highest rating of five stars. Some 17 potential candidate products for the five-star rating are pending evaluation by the National Council of OCOP.

The city requested authorities of districts and towns to encourage businesses in the fields of industry, handicrafts, and community-based agritourism to join the OCOP program.
