Hanoi opens 65 OCOP showrooms this year

Opening new stores under the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program has created favorable conditions for businesses to introduce OCOP products to consumers and visitors.

Hanoi, with the latest opening of OCOP's Bac Tu Liem district store, has brought the total number of OCOP showrooms, located in 26 districts and cities, to 65 as of December 1.

On December 1, Hanoi authorities opened an OCOP store at 202 Ho Tung Mau Street, managed by the Hanoi Agricultural Development & Investment Co.Ltd.

The store is expected to sell OCOP processed food and clean agricultural products of Bac Tu Liem District and others districts.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, deputy director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen The Hiep said that since the beginning of the year so far, the municipal Department of Industry and Trade and district People's Committees have opened another 15 OCOP stores in nine districts, including Dong Da, Hai Ba Trung, Hoang Mai, Bac Tu Liem, Hoan Kiem, Long Bien, Thanh Oai, Thuong Tin, and Ba Vi.

To ensure the benefit of consumers and prevent low-quality goods, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Bac Tu Liem District Nguyen Thuong Son asked the Hanoi Agricultural Development & Investment Co.Ltd and other producers to ensure that the products displayed at the showroom are recognized as OCOP and potential products under the OCOP program.

“They should also be typical industrial products, handicrafts and fine arts of traditional craft villages, and local specialties,” he underlined.

To expand the OCOP store network in the district, the municipal Department of Industry and Trade has encouraged local businesses to participate in the distribution network of OCOP products.

The district has currently opened two showrooms introducing and selling OCOP products.

Earlier, Hanoi organized OCOP product evaluation and classification in 2022 for 89 products from the metropolitan districts of Hoan Kiem and Hoang Mai and rural districts of Quoc Oai, My Duc, Soc Son, and Bac Tu Liem.

All products are qualified candidates to be rated three stars or higher.

Hanoi is leading the country in the number of OCOP products, with nearly 1,700 ranked products from 426 enterprises, cooperatives, and business households across the capital city.

This year, the city strives to have another 400 products certified with three stars or more.

According to the latest plan to implement the city’s OCOP program by 2025, Hanoi targets to complete the assessment and rating for at least 2,000 OCOP products.

Each district and town will build at least one center for creative design, introducing and selling OCOP products and promoting craft villages associated with tourism.

The city also targets to have 100% of shopping malls and supermarkets selling OCOP products and at least 50% of OCOP producers trading in modern sales channels such as supermarkets, convenience stores, and e-commerce platforms.

To make the goal possible, Hanoi will prioritize upgrading specialties and traditional craft villages and assisting in branding certified products.

The program aims to bolster rural economic development toward sustainability.

The city’s OCOP program has attracted several local enterprises, cooperatives, and business households in recent years. It has also contributed to creating over 5,000 new jobs for rural workers, according to the Permanent Deputy Chief of the Hanoi Coordination Office of New Rural Construction Program  Nguyen Van Chi.

Nationwide, more than 7,000 OCOP products have been rated three stars or higher so far, while the national OCOP program has had more than 4,000 participants.
