The capital city has developed 160 hi-tech farming models in the outskirt districts of Me Linh, Gia Lam, Thuong Tin, Dong Anh, Thanh Oai, and Dan Phuong, in which nine enterprises specializing in livestock, aquaculture, preliminary processing - consumption of agricultural products including CP, Dabaco, CJ Vietnam, Minh Long, Hanoi Cattle Breeding JSC, and others are investing in high tech agriculture in the city.

Director of the Hanoi Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sub-Department Nguyen Ngoc Son told a conference on May 25 in Hanoi that the situation of livestock and poultry diseases has been complicated and unpredictable in recent years, posing a potential risk of outbreaks, especially African swine fever in 2019, along with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the rapid urbanization rate.

"Despite facing many difficulties, the city’s agricultural sector still grew well, meeting the set targets, in which the livestock sector ranked first in the country," he said.

The city’s cooperatives have played a key role in promoting the application of technical and high-tech advances to production lines at the facility. The number of cooperatives applying high technology is 122, of which there are three livestock cooperatives, accounting for 2.5% of the high-tech agricultural production cooperatives in the city.

In addition, 100% of livestock products are made from large and industrial-scale farms which have applied at least one high technology measure as well as production - preliminary processing - consumption chains applying high technology in product quality management and product traceability.

Son said currently, the value of hi-tech agricultural products accounts for more than 35% of the total value of agricultural production in the whole city.

According to the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, technologies and smart devices in the management and control of the livestock environment are the most selected for the application of high technology in the field of animal husbandry. Thereby, it helps to reduce labor and increase output as well as product quality.

However, according to Son, the application of high technology in animal husbandry is mainly in one or several stages in production, preliminary processing, and processing. Therefore, the certification of high-tech models still faces many difficulties.

In addition, there are limitations in formulating and implementing policies to support the development of high-tech applications in agricultural production, he added.

Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Ta Van Tuong said, in order to promote the development of high-tech livestock production, it is necessary to plan hi-tech agricultural zones and hi-tech agricultural production areas to integrate the zoning and general planning of the city.

“We need to solve difficulties and obstacles in the implementation of mechanisms and policies on supporting the development of high-tech applications in production. Besides, we also plan to organize training courses on agricultural production techniques with high technology application, market development, as well as support services for hi-tech activities in agriculture.”
